Meet the Board

Jim Honsvall

Jim Honsvall is the President of James M. Honsvall, LTD, a Stillwater-based CPA and consulting firm known for delivering personalized accounting, tax, and business advisory services to individuals and small businesses throughout the St. Croix Valley.

Roots

Jim grew up in Grafton, North Dakota, and began curling at age 12, following in the footsteps of his parents as part of a proud multi-generational curling family. A competitive high school curler, he represented North Dakota at the inaugural U.S. Junior National Curling Championships in 1974.

Education

A graduate of the University of Minnesota Carlson School of Management, Jim has remained committed to serving the local business community through thoughtful leadership, trusted counsel, and a strong belief in relationship-driven service.

Experience

With decades of experience in accounting, tax strategy, and financial guidance, Jim has built a reputation for combining deep technical expertise with a highly personal approach to client relationships. His work has centered around helping business owners navigate growth, plan strategically, and build long-term financial stability with confidence and clarity.

Clients value his steady guidance, integrity, and ability to simplify complex financial matters into practical, actionable solutions. Based in Stillwater, Minnesota, Jim continues to work closely with entrepreneurs, families, and organizations across the region, bringing a calm, experienced perspective to every stage of business and financial planning.

Curling & Community

For more than 55 years, Jim has remained actively involved in the sport, continuing to curl weekly and contributing to the growth of curling throughout the region. He is a current member of the St. Paul Curling Club and was one of the founding leaders behind the creation of the St. Croix Curling Center in St. Mary's Point, Minnesota. In 2018, he helped establish the original nonprofit organization that laid the foundation for the club's development.

Jim has participated in numerous competitions throughout his curling career and earned a club championship title in 2023. His lifelong dedication to curling has helped strengthen and expand the sport for future generations.

Community Engagement

Jim is deeply committed to the communities where he lives and works. Through his professional practice, volunteer efforts, and leadership in local organizations, he strives to make a positive impact and support initiatives that strengthen individuals, families, and businesses across the St. Croix Valley.

Sara Joy Jespersen

Roots

Sara grew up in a northern Minnesota mining town where she learned the value of hard work, the healing powers of the deep woods, and importance of a connected community. She loves a good challenge and is certain to push her physical and mental strength with unique challenges every year. Her family: Nathan, Astoria, & Elianah, fill her life with joy.

Education

Sara earned her degree in Exercise Science with an emphasis in Adult Fitness at the University of Minnesota, Duluth. She has continued her educational pursuit with specialty certifications in multiple areas of fitness, wellness coaching, and neurological studies.

Experience

Sara, along with her husband, have co-owned several Anytime Fitness Centers since 2005. She founded Look Good Naked Training which was later rebranded as Trumi Training. She and her husband launched the Trumi Franchise system. She was a virtual trainer for Wellbeats; a virtual fitness experience. In December of 2019 Sara ventured into the world of hospitality, by opening The Lumberjack, an axe-throwing bar, and in 2021 Mad Capper. Her and Nathan also own three vacation rentals in Stillwater as well as an accounting firm, FitBooks.

Community Engagement

For the last 15 years Sara has worked to organize events, raise funds, and build awareness for many local non-profits. To name a few: Youth Advantage, United Way, Valley Outreach, Power of 100 Women, and Greater Stillwater Chamber of Commerce. She serves as the Chair for The Discover Stillwater Tourism Bureau Board and is on the board of directors the Stillwater Area Chamber of Commerce. Over the years she has volunteered her time for many community efforts, a few closest to her heart include reimagining Union Art alley, maintaining the stairs on the bluffs of Stillwater & Co-Chairing the World Snow Sculpting Championship.

Doug Brady

LEADERSHIP IN ACTION. COMMITMENT TO COMMUNITY.

In Stillwater, MN, Doug Brady is well-known for his integral role in local sports facility management rather than a playing career. He serves as the General Manager for the St. Croix Valley Recreation Center and the Lily Lake Arena, overseeing operations for the Stillwater Area Hockey Association.

FACILITY MANAGEMENT

Under the operational management of St. Croix Caterers, Doug has managed both major Stillwater ice arenas, keeping them highly utilized by the community.

CAPITAL IMPROVEMENTS

He developed revisions to the Long-Range Capital Improvement Plan that successfully kept the Recreation Center financially sound.

COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS

His management and advocacy directly led to community-focused upgrades, including securing a donation from The Freight House to install a new video board at the Rec Center.

CIVIC ENGAGEMENT

Beyond sports, Doug is an active member of the Stillwater Rotary Club.

Doug's leadership, dedication, and passion for community recreation have made a lasting impact on the St. Croix Valley and the generations of athletes and families who benefit from these exceptional facilities.

Brad Kruse

PHILANTHROPY LEADER. COMMUNITY BUILDER.

Brad Kruse is the Chief Philanthropy Officer for a Minnesota family office, where he helps guide charitable investments and community impact initiatives throughout the region.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

Brad previously served as an Organizational Development Specialist with the Initiative Foundation and as a Program Officer with the Central Indiana Community Foundation. He holds a Master of Arts in Philanthropic Studies and a Master of Public Administration in Nonprofit Management from Indiana University's Lilly Family School of Philanthropy, as well as a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature from the University of Wisconsin–Madison.

NONPROFIT LEADERSHIP

A respected leader in Minnesota's nonprofit sector, Brad has served as Treasurer and Board Chair of the Minnesota Council on Foundations, a board member of the Charities Review Council, and a board member and loan advisory committee member of Propel Nonprofits.

CURLING ADVOCATE & INSTRUCTOR

Since taking up curling in 2011, Brad has become a dedicated advocate for the sport in Minnesota. He is a member of the St. Paul Curling Club, serves on the board of the Twin Cities Curling Association, and is a Certified Level One Curling Instructor.

FOUNDING & GROWING THE SPORT

A charter member of both the St. Croix Curling Center and Frogtown Curling Club, Brad has played an important role in growing and strengthening curling communities across the Twin Cities and St. Croix Valley.

COMMUNITY COMMITMENT

Brad currently serves on the Church Council of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Stillwater, MN. Brad and his wife reside in Oak Park Heights, Minnesota, where they remain active in their church and local community.

Dale Gibbs

EDUCATOR. MENTOR. COMMUNITY SUPPORTER.

Retired science teacher (Physics & Astronomy) from Hibbing High School, Dale also served as Assistant Director of the Paulucci Space Theatre in Hibbing, Minnesota. He developed four elective classes to expand the school curriculum and was an assistant high school curling coach for a few years. Dale has always been deeply supportive of Hibbing sports and the community.

A LIFELONG CONNECTION TO CURLING.

Dale's family helped build a curling club in a small town in North Dakota. He and his brother played on family and junior teams, and a club representative went on to win the U.S. Nationals in 1971 and a bronze medal at the World Championship in France, proving that excellence can come from anywhere.

A PASSION THAT SPANS GENERATIONS.

An avid curler since age 10. Dale has curled across North Dakota and Minnesota (Hibbing and St. Paul) for more than 70 years. He was fortunate to curl with some of Minnesota's most competitive players. 1978 Minnesota playoff team runner-up. Played as an alternate on Senior World teams-earning silver medals in Copenhagen (2006) and New Zealand (2009), and a gold medal in Russia (2010).

FRIENDSHIPS. TRAVEL. MEMORIES.

Dale has been part of club championship-winning teams at both the Hibbing and St. Paul Curling Clubs. Curling has given his family a lifetime of games, friendships, and travel that would never have happened without the sport. What a ride.
